As owners of a business housed in one of the oldest residences in Saugatuck, the designation of Saugatuck-Douglas in the top 12 destinations of historic preservation we are very excited. The ongoing efforts of our community to preserve the history is being rewarded in the most complimentary way. We continue to welcome new visitors each year to our community for its natural beauty and art, this will be yet another drawing card for Saugatuck-Douglas.

Wow! What an honor to have Saugatuck-Douglas named to the National Trust for Historic Preservation!

We always knew we had an amazing treasure on Michigan's western shore ... Now you've beautifully documented all that makes Saugatuck-Douglas artfully unique.

Many thanks and congratulations on a job well!

great job on the award!   sandra

The CVB for Saugatuck/Douglas has etched a truly impressive and lasting presence in the art world which resonates with our patrons here in San Francisco. You and your staff will be fondly remembered for your vision and perseverance.

Good for you, kiddo! Sam

Talk about historic recognition for Douglas and Saugatuck,
kudos...to Felicia Fairchild and David Kowal for making it happen, to the Douglas locals who hosted the recognition High Tea, Jean Neve, Pam Aalderink and Franny Martin for tasty treats, to Michelle Van Stedum for flowers, and finally to the people of Douglas and Saugatuck who live the dream, preserve the past and inspire the future. Thank you National Trust of Historic Preservation.

Congratulations and thank you for garnering such wide-reaching recognition for the historical, cultural and natural attractions that make our quirky version of Shangrai-La so special. The effects of receiving such an award are bound to bring more attention to the ongoing need to protect and preserve the unique and precious community resources of the Saugatuck-Douglas area from being gobbled up by opportunistic developers. And speaking of gobbling up--your reception was worthy of the most sophisticated HUGE cities and certainly underscores our little community's distinctiveness. Seventeen of the most exquisite cheeses (with clothespins for those who hate the smell!), melt-in-your-mouth pate and savories, gorgeous batons of fresh bread, great local wine--an amazing repast made more lovely for being enjoyed in such excellent company. You really know how to celebrate. I doubt any of the hundreds who showed up will remember that it was an otherwise gray and frigid winter's day! The Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance is exceptionally pleased to have provided support for this initiative which in turn will help support our whole community's future prosperity.

Just wanted to say a big 'Thank You' for all you and your group have done for the area. Not only the latest but all through the years. I know that this email is not the same as a hand written note but wanted you to know how much we appreciate your efforts. Thanks again, keep up the good work.

Felicia, WOW! … is all I can say.  I listened to the sound bytes on your site and they are terrific.   Thank you for following your good instincts and applying for the award.  This will surely help our communities this coming season during these hard economic times.  You deserve the thanks for Saugatuck receiving this award.  Thank You.

As a lifelong resident of the area it pleases me to see the recognition that the two cities have received from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Certainly this recognition did not come without the hard work and dedication of those who love the area. Thank you to all who work so hard and who dedicate much of their private time for the betterment of the area!

Thank you to all who volunteered to make The City of the Village of Douglas English Tea such a success!

What a wonderful honor for our community to once again be recognized for its beauty, culture, shops and now history.

The Douglas Tea was without match.  I was privileged to be invited to participate and present desserts and tea sandwiches.

Of course, our own Walter “The Wonderful” Klimek added a very special touch as host/concierge extraordinaire.

Thank you Felicia….for bringing our talented community together in celebration of our newest recognition.

Congratulations Felicia! This is so great for the area! Thanks for all your hard work.

And Thank you for mentioning Waterfront on WGVU. We’re looking forward to another fantastic year! Also I wanted to make sure you knew the Midwest Premiere of “Man on Wire” was at WFF last summer which recently got nominated for a 2009 Academy Award for Best Documentary.

Cheers, Hopwood
