Saugatuck-Douglas Art Club

Local artist and Art Club member Peggy Boyce shows her watercolors at the Art Club's July 2011 Clothesline Art Show. Jean Goldsmith and May Heath: Art Club founders Jean Goldsmith and May Francis Heath at an early Art Club show, 1950s.

The Saugatuck Douglas Art Club was organized in 1953 after the Home Towns Art Exhibit upstairs in the Saugatuck Village Hall brought local artists together. We sponsor two outdoor juried Art Fairs each summer. They are the Waterfront Invitational Art Fair the weekend of July 4, and the Village Square Art and Fine Crafts Fair the last Saturday of July. Both shows attract locals and tourists with a diverse selection of art works sold by artisans from our region and elsewhere. The Art Club has granted hundreds of thousands of dollars to local students pursuing arts education in degree-granting programs.
