JAN-MAR 30 HEMPY ART COLLECTION

on display in the West Wing Hallway, Monday-Friday 9-5 EST and during performances. Pieces in the collection are for sale with all proceeds helping to underwrite the annual Sky Hempy Keyborad Performances Series (which begins on Sunday, February 22). The colleciton incudes original oils and watercolors plus several needle point selections. Subjects range from still lives to nautical imagery. JAN. 9 - MAR 2 YESTERDAY ON THE MICHIGAN PIKE By Vincent J. Musi

in the Bertha Krueger Reid Exhibition Hall M-F, 9-5 pm and during scheduled performances; admission FREE at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, 400 Culver Street, Saugatuck. Internationally acclaimed photographer Vincent J. Musi spent two weeks this past summer photographing people and places along US Route 31, often referred to as "Michigan's Route 66". Musi's striking color prints (40 pieces) capture the timeless beauty and traditions of this unique sliver of Americana.

Helen Marlais has given collaborative recitals throughout the US, Canada, China and across Europe with her husband, virtuoso clarinetist Arthur Campbell. She has performed with members of the Chicago, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Grand Rapids, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Beijing Naitonal Symphony Orchestras. Campbell and Malais live in Grand Rapids, MI where they are both Associate Professors of Music at Grand Valley State University. Kazimierz Brzozowski, Classical Piano at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, 400 Culver Street Saugatuck at 2:00 pm. Kazimierz Brzozowski has garnered international acclaim forthis captivating performances in particular the music of Chopin. He has won awards in several national and interantional competitions and festivals and has received scholorships from the Chopin Society of Warsaw, Kosciuszko Foundaiton in New York, and the Barbara Pinsecka Johnson Foundation A graduate of the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Dr. Brzozowski frequently performs with many area symphonies, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He is the founder and director of the International Summer Music Festival, held annually in Naleczow, Poland. 10 CHARLIE CHAN IN HONOLULU-

Super sleuth Charlie Chan (Sidney Toler) is on the case after a murder takes place on a Hawaiian freighter docked in Honolulu. But as he tries to track the perpetrator, Chan faces challenges from his overly enthusiastic son (Layne Tom), who wants to help out. Meanwhile, the ship's captain is pressuring for a quick resolution so he can take the liner back out on the ocean. This is Sidney Toler's first film as Charlie Chan. Alina Morr, Latin Jazz at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, 400 Culver Street, Saugatuck at 2:00 pm. Alina Morr entered the jazz scene via the blues, working with many of the Midwest's finest blues talents before immersing herself in jazz. She is also an arranger and studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, before returning to Detroit and completing a Master of Music degree at Wayne State University. She speaks fluent Spanish, and lived for several years in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, where she performed and taught. She is a Latin painist and has performed with The Machito Orchestra, as well as projects headed by master percussionists Francisco Mora, Ozzie Rivera and Alberto Nacif. 19 ABOUT IT! LECTURE-

"Ladies of the Lighhouses" by Diana Stampfler at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, 400 Culver Street, Saugatuck at 7:00 pm. Dianna Stampfler has researched and promoted Michgian's lighthouses for more than 10 years, sharing stories about the beacons and their keepers, and is considered an expert by many in the industry. She will talk about the women's role in lighthouse keeping and share photos and stories from more than a dozen of these women who have tended the light in Michigan. Among the ladies featured is Julia Sheridan - part of Saugtuck resident Jack Sheridan's family tree. Charles Aschbrenner performs "Carnaval: A Masked Ball" (music by Robert Schumann) at The Saugatuck Center for the Arts, 400 Culver Street, Saugatuck at 2:00 pm. Aschbrenner is the Professor of Music and Chair of the Piano Division at Hope College in Holland, MI and has performed and lectured widely throughout the Midwest as well as in Mexico, Portugal, France and Russia. WIth degrees from the Univeristy of Illinois and Yale Univesity, Aschbrenner continued studies with Nadia Boulanger and Adele Marcus. Aschbrenner will perform Robert Schumann's "Carnaval", a series of works containing fun musical and literary connections. 24 THE THIN MAN GOES HOME-

Director Richard Thorpe puts the accent on levity in this breezy installment of the stylish detective series. High-toned sleuths Nick (William Powell) and Nora (Myrna Loy) head to Nick's leisurely hometown of Sycamore Springs for a vacation, only to find themselves enmeshed in a string of homicide cases and intercontinental intrigue. Poor Nick is amusingly browbeaten by his parents, who wanted their boy to study medicine, is frustrated by the fact that there isn't a good stiff drink to be had in town, and is hilariously defeated by a recalcitrant hammock. In a more serious vein, Nick and Nora become involved in international intrigue while investigating the murder of a local house painter. Andrew Le, Classical piano 2:00 p.m. at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, 400 Culver Street, Saugatuck. Dr. Andrew Le is a pianist, professor and photographer at Hope College. He was the first-prize winner of the 2004 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, and gave his Carnegie Hall debut in the same year to critical acclaim. Dr. Le holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from The University of Michigan and earned his Doctor of Music Arts degree from the Juilliard School. Andrew is also a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy. He will be performing Schubert: Four Impromptus/Schubert-Liszt: Soirees de Vienne No. 6 and Poulenc: Les Soirees de Nazelles.
