The
Douglas House Bed & Breakfast— a Wedgewood-blue, Queen Anne Victorian home
built in 1904 —occupies a fine position in the picturesque village of Douglas.
The house once owned by the prominent editor of the oldest newspaper in
Michigan has recently been refurbished by a retired physician to accommodate
guests – Once again this bed and breakfast has taken its rightful place among
distinguished and well manicured neighbors.
The
Douglas House B&B has been completely renovated with the original charm,
flavor and design intact. Upon arrival, guests are struck by the beauty of the
Victorian foyer adorned with its elaborate French-antique mantle clock, East
Lake cylinder-top desk and imported English grand father clock, which stands
like a sentinel at the Inn’s front door.
Though extensive world-wide travel has forged the Innkeeper's tastes and
preferences, these are just a few of the timepieces throughout the Inn that
reflect his keen interest in antique collections.
The
fragrance of fresh flowers pervades this Michigan B&B and the owner has
added a host of personal touches that create a welcoming atmosphere. The large
drawing room is a pleasant space with a fireplace. It is furnished with an
interesting mixture of inviting couches, original art and turn-of-the century
antiques – some with oriental influences.
The
inn has four guest rooms on the second floor; two of them are now a setting for
exquisite four-poster beds. All are thoughtfully appointed and individually
designed around dominant color themes which create a warm and romantic
atmosphere. Amenities include private bathrooms, peace and relaxation and WIFI
throughout.
Breakfast
is served in the B&B’s formal dining room.
The host prepares an expanded continental breakfast from scratch using
only the freshest local ingredients – He even bakes his own sweet breads, rolls
and coffeecakes. If guests prefer, they
are welcome to eat on the wicker-filled sun porch or under a shade umbrella in
the lovely old-world pleasure garden.
Every
inch of Douglas House is an aesthetic pleasure and signs of a fastidious
innkeeper are everywhere.
