Saugatuck Harbor Inn is a bed and breakfast
that provides Michigan
vacation guests with cozy lodging near the waterfront and just a short stroll
to downtown Saugatuck.
The B&B is a remodeled shipbuilder’s
home that dates back to the mid-1800s. The bed and breakfast has retained some
of the quaint touches from another era, such as a claw-footed tub and antique
pedestal sink. The common living room is still accented with a beautifully
restored hardwood floor, which supports an impressive mahogany desk,
freestanding curio cabinet, and fireplace.
The inn features six rooms—the Marie
Celeste, Lady Anne, and Black Treasure, each with one room, and the Duncan, Evening Star, and
Compass Rose, which are designated as two-room suites. Each room boasts modern
conveniences, such as a private bath, air conditioning, and cable TV.
Each is decorated in distinctly different
styles. The Lady Ann Room
is dressed in warm regal tones of reds, greens, and gold, which are highlighted
in the glow of a fireplace. A Victorian side chair and ottoman accent the
old-style furnishings. The Marie
Celeste Room
is punctuated with a most unusual design twist—antique tulip-wood shutters that
have been configured into a headboard.
The subtle tones of pumpkin, tan, and peach
in the Duncan Suite reflect on a bedroom and sitting room, furnished with large
side chairs and a full-sized sofa. The Compass Rose Suite is laid out with a charming
four-poster bed and a sitting room, complete with a full-sized sofa, formal
side chair, and antique table.
The inn serves breakfast each morning on
the enclosed front porch. Guests also have access to a pool, just a few steps
from the inn, at the Saugatuck Harbor Resort condominium complex, along with
212-feet of shared harbor frontage.
At Saugatuck Harbor Inn, guests can
experience the charm of the old world while indulging in modern-day Saugatuck.
