The
Captain’s Quarters was the first motel in Saugatuck. It was built as a
post-World War II lodging facility that introduced the cutting edge concept of
"Motor Inns" to the lakeshore. The motel began as a modest three-room
motor inn built to capitalize on the auto traffic created by vacationers who
were flocking to Lake Michigan beaches for summer vacations.
Today
the Captain’s Quarters Motel is a 16 room thoroughly modernized facility with a
classic New England exterior. It is owned by a gregarious area native who has
personally restored and expanded this Saugatuck Hotel to reflect his love of
Cape Cod and his comfort with that area’s relaxing life style. Foreign travelers agree with the regional
comparison and often make it their choice when visiting the area.
Located
on historic route 31 just a brief walk to the center of Saugatuck via shady
side streets, Captain's Quarter motel is ideally suited for those seeking the
friendliness and warmth of a privately-owned motel near downtown Saugatuck. The
congenial innkeeper will regale guests with a litany of colorful local stories
and offer opinions on area restaurants, shops and activities.
The
rooms are simply furnished with an accent on light woods and earth tones. They
are clean, casual and comfortable. The rooms offer queen, double queen, king
and full size accommodations. No-smoking rooms are also available. The comfort
of guests is thoughtfully considered by the amenities which include enhanced
cable TV, air conditioning, coffee makers, small refrigerators, clock radios,
hair dryers and WIFI in every room. The
rooms also have windows that open for those who prefer the fresh pure Michigan
air. Small dogs are permitted in designated rooms as long as they are
accompanied by their owners.
Decidedly
relaxing and intentionally comfortable – Captain’s Quarters prides itself in
providing clean well-maintained accommodations, nicely landscaped gardens, a
relaxing picnic area and occasional evening campfires where guests can
socialize, make new friends and share their Michigan vacation experiences.
Old-fashioned
hospitality – good humor – friendly service. These are the reasons that guests
become friends and return year after year.
