8 Winter Activities to Enjoy in Saugatuck/Douglas

It’s just a fact – winter in Saugatuck/Douglas is cold – we are part of #PureMichigan after all! But just because the temperatures are down doesn’t mean you have to be! There’s plenty of fun to be had in Saugatuck/Douglas during the winter months. Here are 8 of our favorite winter activities to enjoy in the Art Coast of Michigan:

1. Cross-Country Skiing

Miles of trails around the Saugatuck/Douglas region are a draw for cross-country skiers of all skill abilities. Saugatuck Dunes State Park, the most popular place for cross-country skiing, offers 13 miles of trails with views of Lake Michigan.

2. Explore the Arts

We aren’t called the Art Coast of Michigan for nothing – our creative roots go back 100 years, and because of that heritage, dozens of working artists call it home. With more than 20 artist studios and galleries to peruse, there’s no shortage of artwork to enjoy. 3. Snowshoeing

Whether you’re trekking through the trails at the State Park or wandering through Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area, snowshoeing is a unique and historic way to experience the great outdoors in Saugatuck/Douglas.

4. Catch a Show

Saugatuck Center for the Arts is a wonderful asset to our vibrant arts community. They bring in renown theater shows, films, art exhibitions and special events year-round. 5. Winter Hiking

Don’t forget the extra pair of socks when you strap on your winter hiking boots! Bundle up and explore our area’s hiking gems like Saugatuck Dunes State Park or Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area. Or, explore our trails like a local at spots like Tallmadge Woods Loop and Wade Memorial Nature Sanctuary.

6. Shopping

Grab a hot coffee and stroll from shop to boutique, in search of the perfect find. Whether you’re looking for clothing, home goods, artwork or antiques, there’s a shop for that in Saugatuck/Douglas.
