Description:

This offering will be hosted at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts in an open-air classroom (400 Culver St. Saugatuck, MI 49453). A prepackaged snack will be provided for each camper. Did you know that you are living history this very second? This introspective camp will combine studio art, art history, and creative writing to help your child process what’s happening in the world as it relates to the pandemic. We’ll look at how artists have documented complicated events in history before diving into our own documentation about present-day life. For this experience geared toward upper-elementary artists, we will spend time writing and reflecting on life at this time. We will look at ways the world is grieving, resetting, and even celebrating amidst tragedy. Then we’ll explore a combination of printing, painting, and sewing as each student creates their own string of Tibetan Prayer Flags. Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. This project will allow students to view their creative and collective voices as “Agents of Good” in an uncertain world. All live-instruction camps are dependent on State guidelines. Should the State “dial back” gathering guidelines in the future the SCA will comply. If this should happen, all impacted classes would be cancelled; patrons would receive e-notification and be refunded.
