COVID-19 Travel Updates

Updated on March 2, 2021 –  4:20 PM

Saugatuck/Douglas remains committed to the health and safety of our treasured visitors.

Our hotels and local businesses have been diligent in taking all necessary safety measures to ensure that your visit with us is a safe and relaxing one. As visitors returned this summer, they found amazing and diverse outdoor adventures to enjoy along with delightful indoor experiences—delivered with safety protocols and capacity limits in place.

We want nothing more than for all our wonderful visitors and local residents to remain healthy and happy. To ensure this, we will continue to do what we’ve been doing. So, when you’re ready to return for another socially-distanced getaway or if you are considering a first-time escape with us, rest assured that the Art Coast of Michigan is prepared to provide you with a safe retreat.

Please use this page as your resource for the best local information on travel to and from Saugatuck/Douglas.

General Travel Information

There are currently no bans on leisure travel. Visitors are encouraged to confirm all reservations and travel plans in advance. For your planning convenience, be sure to check out our list of businesses to see what’s open HERE. Updated continuously, this page lists the current operating hours and days for our restaurants, shops, and galleries.

Be prepared to travel responsibly and bring a face mask. We ask that everyone mask up in indoor spaces or when in public outdoor areas where the space is being shared by others, as per the mandates set in place by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

As of Friday, March 5, based on the most updated orders issued by the MDHHS, our retailers, restaurants, and bars are open with expanded capacity limits and ask patrons to wear masks and maintain a social distance to help keep staff and guests safe. Many restaurants offer outdoor seating with heated patio spaces in addition to indoor seating at a 50% capacity limit. Reservations are strongly advised. See the link above for a listing of local restaurants with current hours of operation.

Groups of 300 or less will be allowed to gather outdoors with social distancing.
Outdoor recreational areas, such as Oval Beach and the Saugatuck Dunes State Park, are open to the public.
